tocaya organica

Two groovy things happened yesterday. Sunday. I bought a new longboard and I rolled through to a new spot in Venice tocaya. Grabbed mine to go because the VBL(Venice Basketball League) had a few games going on.

Service was prompt. Food was hella fresh tasting. They definitely don’t use microwaves here.  I could have done without the  pomegranate and what looked like pumpkin seeds in my guac.. It was also cool seeing the chef Felix. He’s normally over at Toca Madera. tocaya organica is the new baby in the family. All entrees start off vegan. That’s a switch. You can add your choice of protein. Carnivores and herbivores do come hither. Tell em the bald longboading lady sent ya’.

Raw Lunch Erewhon

Thought I was in the mood for soup until I stepped outside. Temps still holdin’ LA steady. Didn’t have time to pack lunch this morning. I ain’t no meal prep type of chick. If I were I’d probably save way more time and money. It’s cool. I don’t wear a watch anyway.

Opted for a raw wrap instead of lentil soup. I love that Erewhon’s labels their soups V/VG. Vegan or Vegetarian. Whole Foods are ya’ listenin’? The wrap is pretty tasty. Could use a bit more of something. Can’t quite put my finger on it. Apparently my tongue either. Okay, just bit into the second half which means I’m no longer paying attention. Later daze.

Power Pre Workout Breakfast

This is definitely one of my fave breakfasts when I have time in the morning before the workout. That is the key. There’s no worse feeling than working out on a full stomach. I always let my tea steep a little longer in hopes of increasing the antioxidant vibe. Not sure if that’s true. I’d like to believe so.
salt free brown rice cakes, organic peanut butter, organic bananas

Bob Mills organic quick cooking oats, water, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, cinnamon, agave

decafeinnated green tea with fresh lemons

This awesome trio has powered a few early swims and a couple of ATC sessions. Now that the weather has cooled off in LA my body is craving something a little more substantial. Love it! As long as it tastes good and keeps me energized and feeling satiated during the workout I’m all in. Good stuff. Eat clean. Keep your training filthy.

Rawberri Swim

Turns out my bowl of trail mix packed cereal wasn’t enough to kickstart the preworkout vibe on Wednesday. By the time I hopped off the second bus I was beyond hungry. Skated past the gym in the direction of PowerZone. Then I saw this sign.

Didn’t have to read much further. They had me at organic acai bowls. Popped into Rawberri where all things are vegan. Sustainable vibes abound. Score and score! Ordered a classic pitaya bowl after I learned that it was another name for dragon fruit. I’m all about question asking. Yes, I meant to phrase it that way.

Snagged a medium bowl. Didn’t want to risk swimming on a full stomach. Can I say it was awesome? Why yes you can. Okay, weird third person moment. But seriously it was bomb. Natural. Organic. It’s amazing how quickly the taste buds adjust to food in its proper state.

The vegan granola was exceptional, the coconut flakes crunchy and the fruit was fresh as hell.

Even the spoon was green. Literally and figuratively. Eco love. Shout out to the planet.

Had the most righteous swim afterwards. Didn’t feel full. Stomach felt clean. Live food energy fueled each stroke. It’s moments like this when I consider going fully raw as a vegan. Figuratively clutching bag of chips while having a Cookie Monster moment. Baby steps.

Places like Rawberri help to encourage the clean eating and cruelty free vibe. They do it in a way that’s not pretentious and that’s always cool. Like the sign says Good Vibes Only. Dig it. I shall return.

It’s all about that Cocowhip on my next visit. Vegan frozen yogurt y’all. Enough said.

Clover Juice

I skate by here here practically every day. Decided to finally drop in. Twice. I’ve yet to snag a juice because I’m so hooked on their Chia Spa power smoothie which has chia seeds, dates, almond milk, almond butter, banana and cinnamon.

Can you say yumtastic boys and girls? Because it is. I love downing one of these after a sweaty sesh of yoga. Let the post workout recovery begin! Tasty and filling. Tides me over til’ my next meal. Usually an hour so later.

Wasn’t a big fan of the Skinny Genius Brilliance Bar. Ate it after my lunch. Good mix of ingredients. Vegan. Found it to be more than just a little on the dry side.

I’m also a juice head. So I will make it a point to try one of their cold pressed concoctions next go round. They have eats. Coffee too. Stumptown. That cold brew. Stop by.Tell em the bald blonde chick sent ya’. Enjoy!

I’m Glowin’

Phone stopped charging last night while at the gym. Ugh! Tried every outlet in my apartment to no avail. After pulling out my hair I conceded to the fact that I would not be able to post anymore thoughts or yesterday’s gym classes to social media. At least not for the moment. I’m sure my eighteen Twitter followers were up in arms.

Awoke this morning to a quickly disappearing battery life. Called Sprint. Guy Martin was of no real help. His name’s not Guy. He’s just a guy named Martin.Blah blah blah. Hanging up now Martin. Ironically met another Martin yesterday in my RPM class who was very helpful in recommending that I get cycling shoes. Maybe the two should meet.

I’m not one of those people who can’t go a minute without their phone. I’m one of those people who can’t go a second without their phone. Decided to take matters into my own feet. Two buses later, I was pushing my Arbor down Melrose in the direction of the Sprint store. Wait. What’s this?

Alas, another green haven somewhat hidden amongst the overpriced wares housed on the popular street. Could it be? If I’d been skating any faster I would have missed it.

Turned my board around and headed for the organic Oz. I was immediately greeted by Diego from behind the counter who was super helpful. But not overbearing. He waited patiently while I perused the menu and got a feel for the place. I liked Glow Bio.

Finally settled on the Active Chocolate Shake. Decided to shake the vibe up even more by adding pre-hydrated chia seeds, some bee pollen and a little bit of probiotics to keep everything flowing. Thanks for the tip Diego.

Glow Bio is the organic juices and smoothies shop brainchild of Kimberly Snyder. You may have heard about The Beauty Detox Solution and The Beauty Detox Foods in veganic circles worldwide. Or her name rolling off of the tongues of every other celebrity gliding down the red carpet. Both books written by Snyder advise on eating more greens. Enabling us to find more balance in the foods we eat and drink.

BIO stands for Balance Inside Out”. And that’s exactly how I felt as I skated off while sipping on my very yummy cup of life. Oh yeah I eventually ended up at the Apple store at The Grove. Turns out I needed a new cable. Decided to throw in a new earpiece too. Hey, it’s all under warranty still. Sort of like our bodies. As long as we continue to invest.

Write Your Life

photo 2I believe this! After a bit of procrastinating, I decided to dive head first into the fray. I’ve always been a writer. No, I don’t have a show on television. No, I haven’t written anything that you might have read or been drugged into seeing on the small screen recently. I love television. But don’t currently own one. That alone could be the contributing factor to my obvious anonymity in this city of lost angels. And the fact that I’ve decided to take myself less seriously. Well, except on Mondays.

So here we are. Sitting in seed macrobiotic vegan restaurant, in Venice. Yes, it’s suppose to be all lowercase letters. Geez, it’s still Wednesday folks. Lighten up! Had their Cooler Ranch tacos and large order of pomme frittes. I’m always hungry. I’ve been here for a few hours. Pondering life and that chocolate mousse that keeps glaring at me from the display case. Don’t think I will make it to any gym classes tonight. Writer’s mode in full effect. My normal Wednesday rotation usually consists of yoga, NTC(Nike Training Club) and Zumba. I will miss my WILD OUT WEDNESDAY vibe.

But today I decided to either shit or get off the pot. Either continue my fitness journey via Instagram @gymclasseshero or sharing my daily vibe on how discovering a love for fitness has profoundly changed my life. Not from a point of vanity. From a point of humanity. Stay tuned for the next tree hugging moment…I’m sure there’s a short bush and some shrubbery involved.
